Job Description
A hotel public area porter is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and appearance of a hotel’s common areas like the lobby, hallways, elevators, and entrance, greeting guests, assisting with luggage, providing basic information about the hotel and local area, and ensuring a welcoming and tidy environment for all visitors; they often perform tasks like trash removal, furniture arrangement, and general upkeep of public spaces while actively engaging with guests to address their needs and concerns.
Key responsibilities may include:
- Guest interaction:
- Greet guests warmly upon arrival and departure.
- Assist with luggage carrying and escorting to their rooms.
- Answer basic questions about the hotel and local attractions.
- Provide directions and information about hotel amenities.
- Public area maintenance:
- Regularly clean and tidy the lobby, hallways, elevators, and entrance areas.
- Vacuum carpets, dust furniture, and polish surfaces.
- Empty trash cans and ashtrays.
- Remove spills and debris promptly.
- Ensure proper lighting and temperature in public areas.
- Operational tasks:
- Monitor and report any maintenance issues in public areas.
- Assist with setting up for events and conferences in common spaces.
- Deliver messages and small items to guests as needed.
- Maintain a professional appearance and adhere to hotel standards.
